Funding Amount: Funding Amount: $2,500 - $15,000

ISLA offers large grants of up to $15,000 to support faculty research and creative work in three categories: arts, humanities, and social sciences. These internal grants can help fund preliminary work or data collection that may enable faculty to be more competitive for external grants and fellowships.

Proposals submitted in the Large Grants for Research in the Social Sciences category should have some quantitative dimension to the methodology or rigorous qualitative methods. Arts and Letters Faculty in the social sciences whose work is more closely aligned with the humanities are encouraged to submit their proposals to the Large Grants for Research in the Humanities category. Please note: Recipients of the Large Grant for Research in the Social Sciences must submit a grant proposal to a major external agency within 18 months of receiving the ISLA grant.

All ISLA Large Grants are reviewed by an anonymous panel of Arts and Letters faculty. The review process takes about a month to complete.

Large Grants cannot be used to cover:

  • Funds to upgrade Campus Workstation Program (CWP) computers
  • Equipment; Notre Dame Research has a yearly competition for equipment purchase and replacement
