    As Director, James Brockmole leads the Institute's mission to advance and promote faculty and student research in the College of Arts and Letters.  He also serves as the College's Associate Dean for Research and Strategic Initiatives and is the Joseph and Elizabeth Robbie College Professor of Psychology. He has previously served as Associate Editor of the journals Attention, Perception, & Psychophysics and The Journal of Experimental Psychology: Human Perception and Performance and is currently Editor-in-Chief of Psychonomic Bulletin & Review. Brockmole received a BA in Psychology and Sociology in 1999 from Notre Dame and his Ph.D. in Psychology in 2003 from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

    Sevda Arslan oversees the Institute's internal funding programs for both undergraduate and graduate students in the College of Arts and Letters. She received her Ph.D. in Anthropology from the University of Notre Dame in 2022 where, as a linguistic and sociocultural anthropologist, she specialized in migration and religion in Europe.

    Kristen Garvin-Podell joined ISLA as an Academic Conference Specialist in 2017. In this role, she assists faculty with all facets of meeting and conference management for events hosted off-site or internationally. She specializes in international events, and has over 17 years of experience in the hospitality industry. Kristen is a Certified Meeting Professional of the Events Industry Council, an internationally accredited organization and has a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance from Ball State University.

    Stephanie Hasse joined Notre Dame in 2018 and serves as ISLA's administrative coordinator. In this role, she supports the ISLA director and staff while also coordinating the Institute's internal faculty grant programs. Stephanie graduated from Grand Valley State University with a bachelor's degree in English. Before joining ISLA, Stephanie worked as a supply chain coordinator.

    Josh Tychonievich (Ph.D. University of Michigan) provides both one-on-one and group-based services that help faculty members form collaborations and apply for external grants and fellowships. He holds graduate degrees in history, East Asian studies, and women's and gender studies and is a member of the National Organization of Research Development Professionals.

    Adam Vilanova-Goldstein is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Psychology.  His research considers the role of agency in attentional selection and memory formation. He assists the Director and Student Grants Program Manager with ISLA's student grants programming.

    Emily Case joined Notre Dame Research in 2018 as a Grants Program Manager. She is responsible for providing post-award financial management assistance to faculty engaged in sponsored research within the College of Arts and Letters. Prior to joining NDR, Emily worked in development at The History Museum in South Bend and has held several roles at Saint Joseph Health System, most recently as a Grants and Operations Specialist. She is a 2012 graduate of Indiana University South Bend with a bachelor’s degree in History and English.

    Suzanne DeGuilio joined the Foundation Relations team in August 2018. She helps faculty in Economics and Political Science connect with, and develop funding proposals for, charitable foundations. She previously served Notre Dame’s Office of Development as the Associate Director for the Cavanaugh Council and President’s Circle. Suzanne holds a J.D. from Valparaiso University School of Law and a B.A. in Journalism from Loyola University Chicago.

    Brian Fogarty joined the Center for Social Science Research, within the Center for Research Computing, as director and associate professor of the practice in 2019.  He is also concurrent research assistant professor in the Department of Political Science. As director of the CSSR, he works with social science researchers to support their project research design, data, and quantitative analysis needs.  Before joining Notre Dame, he was a lecturer in quantitative social science at the University of Glasgow’s Q-Step Centre. Prior to Glasgow, he was an associate professor of political science at the University of Missouri – St. Louis.  He received his Ph.D. in political science from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill.

    Lori Loftis works within Notre Dame Research as a Pre-Award Program Manager. She helps faculty in Anthropology, Political Science, Sociology, and Psychology prepare external grant & fellowship applications.  She joined the University of Notre Dame in 2011 as the Assistant Director of the Institute for Scholarship in the Liberal Arts (ISLA) in the College of Arts and Letters. Before joining Notre Dame, Lori spent 13 years as a research project supervisor at the University of Chicago. She received her bachelor’s degree from Florida State University and master’s degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

    Amelia Lutz joined Notre Dame Research in 2018 as a Pre-Award Program Manager. She helps faculty in the Arts, Humanities, and Economics prepare external grant & fellowship applications.She has over fourteen years of experience in different facets of finance, accounting, and administration. Amelia holds a Certified Public Accountant certificate from Kenya. She worked previously with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Global Health Division as a Grants Analyst. Prior to joining Notre Dame, she worked with Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center as a Senior Accountant. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Finance Major, from the Catholic University of Eastern Africa, Nairobi, Kenya, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of St. Francis, Joliet, Illinois.

    Amanda Retartha joined the Foundation Relations team in November 2016. She previously served Notre Dame’s Office of Special Events & Stewardship as the lead for the endowed professorship and library collection stewardship programs. Amanda holds a Ph.D. in English from New York University and an M.A. and B.A. in English from Notre Dame.

    Tom Scrace joined the Foundation Relations team in August 2018. He helps faculty in Psychology connect with, and develop funding proposals for, charitable foundations.  Prior to coming to Notre Dame, he worked as an Associate Editor in the books department at an academic publishing company. Tom holds a Ph.D. in Physics from the State University of New York at Buffalo, specializing in experimental condensed matter physics, and a B.S. in Physics from Notre Dame.
