Foreign Language Education Fund
Iterim: Foreign Language Education Fund
The Foreign Language Education Fund, which includes the Ursula Williams awards, aims to foster excellence in foreign language education. Grants are expected to range from $500 to $1,500. Larger grants may be awarded in unusual circumstances. The following are examples of possible projects: travel by Notre Dame faculty members to professional development workshops on foreign language pedagogy, travel and honoraria for guest speakers to address issues of foreign language teaching, or exit proficiency examinations for students. These examples are illustrative and not meant as a limitation on the types of projects eligible. Awards will be made through ISLA.
Application Procedures: Applicants should submit a brief narrative of one- to three single-spaced pages, describing the nature and significance of the project, specific objectives for improving foreign language education, relation to current course offerings, a project timeline, and a proposed budget. Along with the narrative and budget, applications must include a letter from the department chair addressing the value of the project for departmental offerings. Applications will be evaluated according to the following criteria: the quality of the proposed project, its potential benefit to foreign language teaching at Notre Dame, and the ability of the applicant(s) to carry out the project within the projected time period.
