Publication Subvention
If a reputable academic press initiates a request to a faculty member, the Institute may make a subvention to support the publication of manuscripts, if funds are available.
The faculty member applicant should submit a proposal to ISLA, along with a budget. Once we have the application ISLA will contact the publisher with a subvention worksheet to be completed before any funds can be awarded.
Tthe Institute will consider a subvention to support a scholarly or artistic sound or video recording upon request by the producer if said producer is a faculty member. Please contact the Institute office for guidelines and information when a publisher or producer requests a subvention. You must have a contract from the publisher before ISLA will negotiate with them.
- Preference is given to works with academic presses.
- Consideration is given to the applicant's rank and research trajectory: subventions are more likely to be awarded to works that will make a major contribution to the applicant's career development.
- Preference will be given to monographs over edited volumes.
- In case of works co-authored (or co-edited) by Notre Dame faculty and colleagues from other institutions, preference will be given to works that have a comparable contribution from the other institution.
- Some faculty might be asked to contribute to the book's subvention from their discretionary account.
