Career Enhancement Grants for Tenured Faculty

These grants, are designed to enable faculty to attend formal summer workshops or seminars that will help them retool or reinvigorate their research. Seminars may target topics such as methodology, language acquisition, or major currents in the field; examples include the Cornell University School of Criticism and Theory for faculty in literature, or ICPSR Summer workshops for sociologists. (This grant is not meant to support travel to conferences.) Faculty may apply directly to ISLA, or chairs of departments may nominate colleagues for these grants. In their letter of application, candidates should explain how the seminar will dovetail with their scholarly interests and enable them to move forward on a promising idea or trajectory; they should also explore scholarship or cost-sharing opportunities offered by sponsoring institutions and prepare a budget statement (maximum award: up to $7,500).

Recipients of awards for $5,000.00 or more are required to submit a one page report, in hard copy to the ISLA office, outlining how their funding was used and what its outcomes were. Please submit your report within one month of the completion of the project for which the funding was used.
