Receiving an Award

Receiving notice of an award. When you receive notice of an awarded fellowship or grant, contact Ken or Laurie in ISLA. They can assist you with completing agency forms, budget revisions, and the like. They can also help you to negotiate some elements of your award or assist you in receiving help with negotiations from individuals in the Graduate School.

Notifying the Arts & Letters Dean’s Office. When you receive an award, you will probably want to notify your department chair and possibly the Dean. ISLA, however, will take care of officially recording your award and making arrangements so that your funds are directed to the proper account.

Information about managing your award. The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs Accounting (RSPA) generally allocates restricted accounts for grants and fellowships. You will likely be contacted by both the Graduate School’s Office of Research and RSPA in terms of this account number and how to view the account. By this point, ISLA is usually not involved in the fund management of your account.

It is very important that you contact ISLA when you receive an award. Not all agencies contact the University when faculty are awarded grants and fellowships. Please do not rely on other individuals to tell ISLA about your award. If you are expecting to take a sabbatical leave and using the funds you receive from a fellowship or grant to recover some of your salary, it is very important that ISLA is aware of your award so that accounts and paperwork can be taken care of. Delay in notification of an award can cause a delay in the funds being used to support your sabbatical leave.
